Who is ING?
ING (Internationale Nederlanden Groep) is the largest retail bank in the Netherlands and one of the largest financial institutions in Europe. With over 9 million retail customers in the Netherlands alone, ING has the widest reach of any Dutch bank. ING operates in over 40 countries, making it one of the most internationally active Dutch banks.
ING credit cards are exclusively available to ING bank customers — you must have an ING current account to apply. The cards are issued and managed by ICS (International Card Services), a joint venture in which ING holds a major stake. ICS is the largest credit card issuer in the Netherlands and handles the operational side of ING credit cards, including fraud management and 24/7 customer service.
ING credit cards are true credit products: you spend on credit throughout the month and repay at the end. A BKR credit check is performed for all applications. ING assesses income, existing credit obligations and creditworthiness before approving. For ING customers with a stable income and positive BKR registration, the application process is typically straightforward and completed online.
Both ING credit cards include 365-day purchase protection — a standard feature across ICS-issued cards. This covers theft and accidental damage to purchases made with the card within 365 days of purchase, providing peace of mind for significant purchases such as electronics, luggage and sports equipment.

What ING customers need to know
ING and ICS: the relationship explained
Although you apply for your credit card via ING, the card itself is issued and managed by ICS (International Card Services). ICS is the Netherlands’ largest credit card issuer and handles the operational management of ING credit cards including fraud detection, transaction processing, and the 24/7 customer service line. When you call the number on the back of your ING credit card, you reach ICS. This is normal practice — the same is true for ABN AMRO and Rabobank credit cards.
365-day purchase protection: how it works
Both ING credit cards include 365-day purchase protection, managed via ICS. If an item you purchased with your ING credit card is stolen or accidentally damaged within 365 days, you can file a claim. The claim process is handled via the ICS claims portal. Coverage has maximum limits per item and per year, and excludes normal wear and tear, cosmetic damage, and items left unattended in public. Always keep your purchase receipts.
Paying interest vs. paying in full
ING credit cards charge approximately 14–15% annual interest on any balance you carry beyond the monthly due date. This is the standard rate for Dutch bank credit cards. To avoid all interest charges, set up an automatic full repayment via your ING bank account. ING allows you to configure this in the ING app: set a standing order to pay the full credit card balance each month automatically. This turns your credit card into a zero-interest payment instrument with purchase protection benefits.
